New altar consecrated

Bishop Allen Vigneron consecrated a new altar at St. Elizabeth Church in Oakland during the Oct. 6 liturgy marking the end of the Year of the Eucharist. Over the past several years, the Fruitvale area church has been undergoing major interior renovations, culminating in the installation of a new altar.
The Year of the Eucharist was initiated by the late Pope John Paul II to promote Eucharistic devotion and began with a Eucharistic Congress in Mexico.
St. Elizabeth Parish, established in 1892, is staffed by Franciscan Friars with Father Marco Antonio Figueroa as pastor.

Bishop Vigneron places in the altar an altar stone with relics of St. Francis of Assisi, St. Clare of Assisi and St. Elizabeth of Hungary, patroness of the parish.

Bishop Vigneron incenses the new altar.

Bishop Vigneron consecrates the new altar with holy oil.
