Sister Mary Ann Whittman, SHF
Holy Family Sister Mary Ann Wittman, who served briefly at Oakland’s St. Vincent Day Home, died Feb. 20 in San Francisco. She was 56 and had been a member of the Sisters of the Holy Family for 36 years.

Born in Portland, Oregon, she joined the congregation in 1968. An administrative assistant at St. Vincent’s Day Home from 1990-91, she ministered for several years in the day homes of her Fremont-based congregation and was a religious educator coordinator for many years throughout California, Nevada and Hawaii. She worked for the San Francisco Archdiocese in several capacities and in recent years served as a canonist in the matrimonial tribunal for the Los Angeles Archdiocese.

Survivors include her sisters, Holy Family Sister Patricia Wittman of Santa Clara; Stephanie Storms of Spokane, WA; and Margaret Mensing of Portland.
The memorial Mass was held Feb. 26 at the Holy Family Motherhouse in Fremont. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.
