St. Albert Priory in Oakland, the original headquarters
for the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology, will celebrate its
75th anniversary year with two special events on Oct. 6 and Nov. 27.
The Dominican school was the first Catholic seminary to join the Graduate
Theological Union in Berkeley in 1964.
Events on Oct. 6 will begin at 12:30 p.m. with an open house and walking
tour at the Priory, 5890 Birch Court in Oakland’s Rockridge district.
St. Albert’s was originally the estate of Raymond and Winifred Perry
and several speakers will focus on the Perry mansion and local history
of the area, beginning at 2:30 p.m. R. Wolf, co-author of “Rockridge,”
will host a book signing at 3:30 p.m.
The Women’s Antique Vocal Ensemble will present a chapel concert
of early music from Spain and its world colonies at 8 p.m. Concert details
are available at: www.wavewomen.org
The second part of the celebration will be a day-long symposium on Nov.
27, also at the Priory. Three international speakers will highlight the
history of Dominican education and its relevance to contemporary philosophical
and theological inquiry.
