| Walk on
April 2 to fight hunger
Staff report
The Cathedral Parish of Christ Light is joining its
Lake Merritt-area neighbor, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, to fight
hunger locally and globally.
Twenty-five percent of the funds raised by the April 2 CROP Hunger Walk
will benefit the Alameda County Food Bank. The remainder will support
the hunger-eradication efforts of Catholic Relief Services and Church
World Services, which sponsors CROP Hunger Walks nationally.
The walk will take off from the Cathedral Plaza at 10 a.m. and circle
Lake Merritt. Registration begins at 9 a.m.
This is the first Oakland CROP Walk. According to Church World Services,
two million CROP Hunger Walkers, volunteers and sponsors raise about $16
million a year to fight hunger.
Church World Services, founded in 1946, is a cooperative ministry of 37
Christian denominations and communions working together to eradicate hunger
and poverty and promote peace and justice among the world’s most
vulnerable people.
Parishes are welcome to form a team to join in the walk. The Cathedral
Parish team also welcomes sponsors. See www.oaklandcrophungerwalks.org/oakland
for details.
