Walk Against Genocide
Staff report
A Bay Area Walk Against Genocide will take place April
10 at Lake Merritt in Oakland. The walk will end at the Cathedral of Christ
the Light.
Funds raised by the Walk will benefit Catholic Relief Services, American
Jewish World Services and the San Francisco Bay Area Darfur Coalition.
The Global Ministry Team from the Diocese of Oakland will be among the
participants.
Registration begins at 11 a.m., where people will gather by the bandshell
at the intersection of Lakeshore and Lake Park avenues. The program begins
at noon. The 3-mile walk around Lake Merritt will begin at 1 p.m.
Among the goals of the walk are to raise awareness about genocide globally,
but also call to mind that survivors of mass atrocities live in the Bay
Area. The walk will offer an opportunity to hear their stories.
