THE DIOCESE
Deaneries restructured
At the initiative of the deans and with the recommendation
of the Presbyteral Council, Bishop Salvatore J. Cordileone has realigned
and merged some of the deaneries of the diocese to be more effective and
faciliate communication. A deanery is a group of neighboring parishes
or cultural or pastoral centers led by a local priest appointed by the
bishop to help him manage and administer that area. If you have an annual
Diocesan Directory, clip and add these changes to it.

Transitional deacon
Gerald Pedrera, a seminarian for the Oakland Diocese, will move a step
closer to the priesthood on March 19 when he is ordained a transitional
deacon. Bishop Salvatore J. Cordileone will preside at the ceremony, which
begins at 10 a.m. and will be at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Concord.
Pedrera, 33, a native of the Philippines, cited his involvement with a
biblical apostolate that helped parishioners in their spiritual growth,
for sparking his desire to live a life of service based on God’s
Word.
