St. Paul School dream realized
Members of Richmond Elks Lodge No. 1251 gathered for a dedication at the newly named Fraga-Fellows Field at St. Paul School in San Pablo. The school received the Elks Beacon Grant funding to refurbish the field and build science gardens for the school. Grandparent Joe Fraga and parent Bill Fellows had been working individually to make the field usable for the students. This project inspired other parents to get involved with the school. Several Elks' members also provided many hours of labor while securing additional funding from the Oakland Athletics baseball team to ensure that the project would be complete and finished on time. Among those attending the dedication ceremony on April 24 were, from left, Bob Ostini, grant coordinator; Mark Maltagliati, project coordinator; Art Smrekar; John Pitts; Gloria Maltagliati; Natalie Lenz-Acuña, principal of St. Paul School; Joe Fraga; Bill Fellows; and Carl Petersdorf.
