Capital Campaign at 67% of goal

Fundraising results for nine parishes whose Capital Campaign efforts were combined with a local campaign were released by the Diocese of Oakland's Office for Mission Advancement, showing a total raised of $16 million.

It brings the total amount given or pledged in the Capital Campaign to $49.5 million. Parishes pledged $29 million, the nine parishes running a combined campaign raised $16 million and major donors pledged $4.3 million. Two parishes have asked to conduct their Capital Campaign efforts at a later time, so their goals of $1.4 million were subtracted from the overall goal of $65 million. Thus the diocese achieved 67 percent of its overall fund raising goal.

This was the first Capital Campaign in the diocese's 50-year history, said Ken Hokenson, executive director of OMA. People can still contribute to the campaign by dialing 510-893-4711 or visiting www.reclaimtogether.org.

The Capital Campaign raises money for parishes, social services, clergy retirement, education and debt relief.

Nine parishes who were considering major capital projects — like construction — were able to combine their fundraising with the diocesan effort. Because of the combined campaigns, results from the nine parishes were tabulated separately from the other diocesan parishes.

The two parishes that will conduct the campaign at a later date are Our Lady of Lourdes, Oakland, and St. Joseph, Fremont.
